Trapped in busy schedules and running errands around the clock, one thing that most in their twenties tend to neglect is skincare. Taking care of your skin is of utmost importance as it tends to become oily, dull, and acne-prone.

Skin in their twenties undergoes a subtle transition, in which case some may find it challenging to understand their skin type and deciding on which skincare routine they should stick to for achieving healthy skin.

Skincare Regimen for Your Twenties

The best skincare rule for your skin in your twenties include-

1. Know your skin type

Your skin in its twenties is not the same as it was during your teen years. With age, skincare should also switch to suit your skin type. A dermatologist can help you identify skin problems that need care and attention, such as hyperactive oil glands, acne scars, enlarged pores, and uneven skin tone. After you come to know your skin type and skin problems, customize your skincare routine according to what your skin needs.

2. Start double-cleansing your face

The double-cleanse method involves washing the face using an oil-based cleanser (Beta Hydroxy Acid) to draw out impurities such as makeup, sebum, SPF, and pollutants, followed by a water-based cleanser (Alpha Hydroxy Acid or AHA) to get rid of the sweat, dirt, and dust. The double cleanse method has proven to keep the pores clean and prevent it from breaking out.

3. Exfoliate thrice a week

The benefits of exfoliation are simply unmatched and innumerable. However, dermatologists do not recommend the incorporation of exfoliation in the skincare regime if you have sensitive or dry skin.

Exfoliation helps the pores to unclog, preventing the outbreak of acne. It also removes all the dead skin cells that had been accumulating on the surface, making it appear dull and oily.

Along with unclogging pores, exfoliation helps improve blood circulation and lymphatic drainage of your skin. Thus, with improved blood circulation, exfoliation exponentially promotes new cell formation and collagen synthesis in your skin. Therefore, with new cells and collagen formation, your skin looks more youthful and healthy.

4.Hydrate sufficiently

Adequate hydration makes the skin look plump, healthy, and young. It will help improve skin elasticity, keeping the fear of fine lines and wrinkles at bay. In addition to this, skin hydration combats oiliness and makes the skin more resilient towards environmental pollutants. Along with drinking an ample amount of water, one should always hydrate their skin using antioxidant serums, moisturizers, and night creams. Choose your hydrating agent according to your skin type. Use a gel-based moisturizer if you have oily skin and a creamy moisturizer if you have dry skin.

5. Start using an under-eye cream

There’s no lower age limit to when one should start using an eye cream with ceramides. The skin under your eye is more fragile compared to the rest of your skin, and thus, it requires special attention. Due to the absence of sebaceous glands, collagen, and elastin fibers under the eyes, the skin in that area tends to contract fine lines more quickly than the rest of your face. Choose under eye creams with ceramides and peptides that reduce fine lines, dark circles and protect the tender under-eye skin from any inflammation or bacterial invasion.

6. Never skip on sunscreen

Make sunscreen your best friend as it minimizes the penetration of UVA/UVB rays deep into the skin, which could put you at the risk of contracting a variety of skin disorders such as sunburn and rashes. Other than protecting the skin, sunscreen lotions prevent your skin from tanning and premature aging. Choose your sunscreen depending on the length of time you will be outside daily. Usually, a sunscreen with a broad spectrum of SPF 30 is beneficial for daily exposure to Indian weather.
