Dark circles may be due to sleep deficiency, but that might not be the only reason. As we age, we lose collagen around our eyes, which leads to under-eye depression.

Other causes include allergic reactions, nasal congestion, fluid retention, physical or emotional stress, smoking, alcohol consumption, and too much sun exposure, which can cause skin pigmentation and eczema.

Heredity dark circles can be a genetic trait that runs in families. Under-eye circles are not usually a cause for great concern unless you are experiencing other sudden health changes as well.

Dark circles and puffiness also tell us a lot about our sleeping and eating habits, which may or may not be one of the biggest factors in determining what is not functioning right in our bodies because it will start to show up through the eyes.

Dark Circles

The skin around our eyes is called periorbital skin, and it is thinner as it doesn’t have as many oil glands. This makes the skin under our eyes more prone to moisture loss and dryness, which is how we get a lot of fine lines and wrinkles.

Few ways to get rid of dark circles under our eyes include-

1. Sweet Almond Oil: It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It also contains retinol, Vitamin E, and K, which can keep the area of skin under the eyes smooth without irritating it.

Applying sweet almond oil and massaging it under the eye area before going to bed will help in reducing dark circles.

2. Tomatoes: They have Vitamin C and K, and it also contains lycopene which is an antioxidant that reduces under-eye depression, and all of these are good for your skin.

Tomato also has natural bleaching properties that brighten the skin and make it soft. Refrigerate tomato crushing in a bowl before applying them around the eyes is suggested. Leave them on for 15-20 minutes.

3. Hydrating Eye Patches: These eye patches will help in external hydration. They nourish and moisturize the area under your eyes. These patches also help with puffiness under the eyes.

4. Egg White Masks: Eggs have skin tightening properties. It also helps to get rid of under-eye bags and wrinkles.

Separate the egg whites from one or two eggs and mix them in a bowl and add a few drops of witch hazel, which is natural skin-tightening astringent.

5. Pure Rosewater: Rosewater helps in rejuvenating the skin and soothes tired eyes. It works as an excellent skin toner that helps with puffiness and under-eye bags.

6. Cucumber Slices: They have skin-lightening and mild astringent properties for treating raccoon eyes. They also give a soothing and refreshing effect.

7. Green or Black Tea Bags: The caffeine and antioxidants present in these bags can help to get rid of puffy eyes and dark eye circles.

It also helps in shrinking blood vessels to help reduce fluid retention. Green tea reduces swelling and discoloration under the eyes.

8. Cold Compress: They help to constrict the blood vessels underneath the eyes. They also help in reducing the eye puffiness and dark circles under the eyes. This can be done by wetting a towel in cold water or cold milk and placing it over the eyes until it becomes warm.

Another cold compress is using cold spoons. Chill them in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. Lay them gently and carefully underneath the eyes directly on the area with dark circles. Let them sit for around 5 minutes under the eyes.

A bag of frozen sweet peas also works as a great cold compress.

9. Eye creams: Many eye creams help in moisturizing and hydrating the under-eye area. It is quite essential to find the right type of eye cream for your skin type.

Dab the eye cream gently under the eyes, and don’t go too hard. They also help with wrinkles and skin brightening.

10. Coconut Oil: They help in lightening dark circles. It has skin moisturizing properties, and hence it promotes smooth skin.

Coconut oil helps in preventing wrinkles and fine lines under the eyes owing to sleep deficiency. Apply or massage the skin under the eyes with coconut oil for a few minutes. This will promote blood flow and help heal dark circles.

These are the few ways that will help in getting rid of the dark circles and eye puffiness. One last tip is to avoid rubbing your eyes too much as it can cause puffiness or cause the blood vessels under the eyes to dilate, making the eyes appear puffier and dark circles to appear darker.
